Pete Hill - Circle One Team Rider
Pete Hill is fresh on the Circle One Team Rider books for 2008. A talented Junior Longboarder from Barnstaple, North Devon he is 18 years old and has been surfing for 3 years. We believe he's got bags of potential and is only starting to show us what he's got.
Pete tells how his first surf sessions were on a shortboard but it was on a loaned longboard that he experienced love at first ride. He describes the hit he gets from the whole glide and flow of longboard riding style, his absolute passion, and how he's inspired by a host of longboarders - Joel Tudor and CJ Nelson on the international scene, Ben Skinner and Elliot Dudley to name a few in the UK. Pete also took encouragement in 2005 from being chosen to take part in the exciting Trisurf project, which involved a surf exchange trip to France and intensive instruction to move his style on and up a gear. Recent overseas travel was to the beaches of Morroco which he describes simply as 'an incredible experience with amazing waves'.
If you want to catch Pete in action at his local breaks, then your best chances are down at Saunton, Croyde and Putsborough where you'll see him hanging with his well-known local Longboard Club (biggest in Europe he reckons), the 'Hotdoggers'. The club holds a series of friendly competitons throughout the year which has provided Pete with invaluable contest experience.
Pete's style takes a 50/50 approach to longboarding; he loves hitting lips but is not afraid of hanging around on the nose. Pete's current favourite board is the new Circle One Xpose 9'1" Performance Longboard, being an avid fan of the five-fin bonzer setup. He raves, 'It's amazing, the best longboard I've ever ridden! It's so fast and turns really well.' Pete also wears the Noir wetsuit, which he thinks is the warmest suit he's ever had: 'It's brilliant, it's got it all - warmth, flexibility and style.'
